Balls are engineered objects made of rubber or animal skin with a spherical or oval shape that are often used for various ball sports and team sports. With functions that vary between different sporting competitions, players might kick, throw, or hit a ball in order to earn a goal, or points, in order to beat the opponent. The Ancient Greeks and Egyptians used balls primarily for play, but today balls serve a myriad of functions beyond sports as ball-bearings, exercise balls, and toys. Adults and children worldwide use balls in order to participate in a sport or simply for entertainment, and exercise. The ball is one of the most fundamental physical forms and has universal appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Polo Ball
Scaled comparison drawings of the Polo Ball and other sports balls

Polo Balls have a diameter between 3”-3.5” (7.6-8.9 cm) and circumferences from of 9.42”-11” (23.93-27.94 cm). The mass of a Polo Ball is between 3.5-4.5 oz (99-130 g).

Cricket Ball
Scaled comparison drawings of the Cricket Ball and other sports balls

The Cricket Ball is a ball for playing cricket, usually very solid. Its manufacture is regulated at the high-level by cricket laws to avoid manipulation. The ball is made of leather covering a cork core wrapped with strings, and its trajectory will depend on how the bowler strikes it through the air. The cricket ball has traditionally been red in all Test cricket while white in one-day cricket matches, though training and informal cricket matches use red, white, or pink balls. Cricket balls are hit with lots of force such that it alters the properties of the ball, which can influence the result of a match.

Cricket Balls have a diameter between 2.8”-2.86” (7.1-7.26 cm) and circumference from 8.81”-9” (224-229 mm). The mass of a Cricket Ball is between 5.5-5.75 oz (156-163 g).

Soccer Ball | Football - Size 5
Scaled comparison drawings of the Soccer Ball (Football) Size 5 and other sports balls

Footballs (Soccer balls) are the primary piece of equipment for the game of football (soccer). come in a series of successive sizes. The underlying reason for the variety of different soccer ball sizes is for the smooth and safe development of young players as they grow in skill and age.
